CASTROVILLE, Calif. (May 8, 2017) – The Annual Castroville Artichoke Food & Wine Festival, established in 1959, is celebrating its 58 th year of family fun featuring local chef demonstrations, a beer and wine garden, and musical entertainment. This year’s festival will be held at the Monterey County Fair and Event Center, June 3-4, 2017, in order to accommodate for the continued success and growing number of attendees. Proceeds from this year’s event will go to the community and support many local groups and school districts.

Previously held in Castroville, known as the “Artichoke Center of the World,” the event is a way to celebrate the iconic vegetable, the community and the growing region where nearly two-thirds of America’s fresh artichoke supply comes from. Presenting sponsor and local Castroville grower Ocean Mist Farms will supply the artichokes for the festival, and will host field tours for attendees to show how fresh artichokes are grown and harvested.

“We enjoy seeing the families that come out to enjoy the activities, and are thrilled to see the growing numbers of foodie attendees,” said Diana McClean, director of marketing at Ocean Mist Farms and board member for the Castroville Artichoke Food & Wine Festival. “This is a terrific event for the community to come together to show their support of our local agriculture industry, while also learning about our beloved state vegetable.”

The event will include a farmer’s market, Agro-Art competition and a wine & beer garden with local beer, wine & spirit producers pouring. Some of Monterey’s finest chefs and food personalities, including Tony Baker, Jerry Regester and Butch Francis, will showcase the versatility of the artichoke on this year’s expanded Chef Demo Stage.

While the festival seeks to educate the community on how to prepare artichokes, the always popular Food Court will offer steamed, grilled and fried artichokes, artichoke burritos, sausage and a delicious sauté, as well as artichoke cupcakes, cheesecake and ice cream. Live musical acts – including a Bruno Mars tribute band and local favorite, The Chicano All Stars – will entertain on the main stage throughout the weekend and children and parents will enjoy the Kids Zone open each day.

“Our goal is to provide a weekend of entertainment and great food to as many people as possible, but most importantly, our goal is to provide education about the Castroville artichokes and their importance to our agriculture community heritage,” McClean adds.

Tickets are on sale now through June 4, with opportunities to purchase discounted packages through May 29. To find out more about the Annual Castroville Artichoke Food & Wine Festival, please visit http://artichokefestival.org/.
